An Interview With God
It was a global event with the irresistible headline: How To Stop The World, Spin It Around The Other Way, And Make It Work Right.
God Himself had created the splashy headline, as well as picked the television station, and chosen the television host.
It was an interview televised live around the globe.
The entire world had literally stopped in astonishment.
Satellites were spinning around the globe picking up the signal. Every television and radio station in the world was tuned in. Anybody who had these electronic devices had them turned on. And even in the remote jungles of the world, drums were beating out rhythmic messages to awestruck villagers.
"I have only one question for you," said the charismatic host, who even at this moment, despite the enormous pressure on him to represent the voice of all humanity, managed to stay self-assured, centered, and relaxed. Perhaps it had something to do with the calming effect of his divine guest.
"I'm listening," said God.
"Why this mess?"
"There is no mess," said God. "Only incorrect thinking. It's all perfect. You and everyone else are just not seeing it right. This incorrect thinking and perceiving has created what you call a mess."
"Hmm, it may seem rather clear to you. But can you explain it to us a little more fully. See, we're not at all happy about anything, and people have reached a point where they feel that they can't even take it anymore."
"I'll try and explain it as clearly as I can.
"Creation is a miracle. All of it. The vast, overwhelming smorgasbord of sounds, colors, and sensations. The teeming world of diversity, change, and adventure. The laughter of friends. The soft words of a loved one. The touch of wind on your cheek as you step out of your front door.
"Yet how much do people appreciate it?
"So little that they don't even think of it.
"Instead people pine over how little they have. They've done this from the moment the first thought rippled across the earliest brain and the first emotion surged over a human heart.
"The result: People attract even more to whine about from cradle to grave, day in and day out, lifetime in and lifetime out.
"People want more, more, more. Why? Because people don't have enough. And why don't people have enough? Because they're busy 24/7 wanting, wanting, wanting. And what does all this hard work do for them? It keeps them wanting, wanting, wanting. Why? Because people don't have enough. Do you notice the loop here?
"If you want to flip this around, and if you want to start having, having, having, then I have some startling news for you. You're going about it the wrong way.
"You see, to move into abundance, you can't keep focusing on scarcity. And this yearning you have for what is not in your experience right now guarantees only one thing: that you're going to get even less.
"It's not that my universe, this vast abundant creation that falls freely at your feet, rolling in ecstasy, that is the culprit. Nor is it governments and societies that have gathered to conspire to limit people. It's each one of you. In particular, your mind. Specifically, the way it works.
"Here is the trap. If you have a problem, you focus on it. This does not create a solution, instead it makes the problem worse. You may have noticed this by now.
"And basically, there is only one problem in the universe according to you. That is, insufficiency. There isn't enough money, love, friendship, health, or hope. There isn't enough knowledge or comprehension. There isn't enough love, support, or compassion. The list is infinite.
"Obviously, this insufficiency does not exist in the world, nor even in creation as a whole. It, therefore, exists only in you.
"You are literally fighting away the abundance that can be yours by focusing on its opposite.
"If you could stop your agitated mind for even one moment, you would be amazed what a wonderful person you are and how much is possible for you.
"You need to STOP how the world is spinning for you. STEP OUT of your mindset. And TURN it around in the opposite direction.
"Instead of focusing on your problems, focus on your solutions.
"Instead of focusing on what you did wrong, focus on what you did right.
"Instead of focusing on what is not working, focusing on what is working.
"Let me ask you a question: what is your role in life?
"Before you start in on a long explanation, let me give you a hint: the answer is a single word. It's a word that anyone can use at any time in history and at any place on the planet.
"That word is appreciation.
"And appreciation starts with wonder. A sense of wonder at the silent majesty of life and the dignity of your own life.
"When you appreciate little things, then you'll soon have big things to appreciate, too."
"I think I'm following you here," said the host. "So, we get what we give. And what we give is our attention. What we need to do is appreciate what we have and that's what keeps it coming."
"I think you summed it up nicely," said God, patting him on the back warmly.
