Key To Success

What do you do when you come across a key to success in a book you're reading? You ponder over it. Since I read many books and come across many keys, I thought it would be fun to share the ideas that arise as I contemplate a key to success. Reading is not just about absorbing information, it's also about contemplating, allowing the ideas to blossom within, and nurturing a seed tossed in the rich soil of the inner garden.

Name:
Location: Denver, Colorado, United States

I got my Master's degree in psychotherapy more than a decade ago. Since then I've studied the human condition with fascination. Over the years, I've learned a singular lesson: your life does not work when you oppose your soul nature. If you want a magical life, you have to drop your inauthentic transactions with the world. You discover your own power when you spend time alone to figure out what you really love to do.

The Winner's Secret

Everybody wants to be a winner, but few people are. Most people struggle to hold their little worlds together. Few people soar; few excel.

What is the difference? Are some people just brighter, more energetic, more attractive, more talented, and more athletic than others?

Even a superficial amount of research will quickly show you that none of these are important factors. Some people succeed despite a complete absence of any superior qualities while others fail despite an abundance of natural gifts and abilities.

Winning and losing are psychological drives; talents may or may not help; circumstances may or may not help; but the deciding factor is your psychology.

By psychology, I do not mean your history of experiences and how they have affected your relationship with the world.

I mean attitude or point-of-view.

All winners have two qualities in common.

They believe in something before the evidence for it has even got out of bed.

And they are totally committed.

That's it. Master these two qualities and you will start to win in anything that you do.

Let's tackle the first one: belief.

What is belief? It is thinking that something is possible when the evidence has not yet emerged to support it. It is holding a vision and sustaining it through sheer psychic force.

Some people can't get to the envisioning state. They can't form clear goals or shape ideals. Their attention is scattered and their sense of purpose is all over the place.

Others can get to the place where they can hold an ideal; but they can't sustain it. They either feel that they don't deserve it or that the means are not available.

Then there are those who can envision what they want and believe that they can have it. Even when they don't know how, they are determined to find out how. These are the people who believe. And their belief creates the thoughts and actions that will lead to the creation of what they desire.

Something else happens, too. Their strong mental image sends out a ripple into the quantum field of all possibilities and they set up an invisible magnetic relationship, a resonance with their ideal. As they move toward their ideal, their ideal also starts to move toward them. The energy of belief is what sustains this relationship.

One more thing is needed: total commitment.

Belief is not enough; for at the slightest trace of defeat, the dream can be dropped.
Yet at the start of anything new, defeat is inevitable. You have to find out what does not work before you can hone in on what does. The right variables and the right pattern do not spontaneously emerge. A process of discovery has to take place. Traditionally, it has been referred to as trial and error. And you cannot have the trial without the error.

When the belief is damaged and collapses, then two things happen. The first is your momentum is lost, your forward movement toward your ideal. The second is your magnetic resonance, your relationship with the ideal, also collapses. You stop moving towards it. And it stops moving toward you.

Total commitment is what keeps belief alive. Anybody can be a champion in believing in themselves and their ability to attain their desires, but few are totally committed to sustaining that belief regardless of how circumstances are unfolding.

What prevents total commitment are what I call gaps. These are gaps in action and gaps in a positive projective thought. Our physical energy goes up and down, our thoughts waver from clear to confused, and our moods shift from high to low. All dips in the positive flow of energy are gaps. They are inevitable. However, when they become prolonged, that is when commitment weakens. If stretched out long enough, commitment collapses.

Thus, while there are many differences between winners and losers, taking care of just these two factors: belief and total commitment is enough to change the velocity of your life. These are the legs that you must stand on if you wish to shift your reality from a dismal, challenging one to a reality that is inspiring and a joy to live.

The psychology of the right attitude and sustained attention is what makes winning possible. Small shifts in your mind can create huge effects in your life.

How You Dream Your World Into Existence

Reality is not real. It is a dream. This is not a metaphorical statement. On the quantum level of reality, only pure energy exists. We are finding true what Democritus of Abdera discovered a long time ago. Democritus (about 460 BC-about 370 BC) was a Greek scholar who is best known for his atomic theory. He is recorded by Diogenes Laertius to have said, "Nothing exists except atoms and empty space; everything else is opinion."

It was long believed that these atoms, at least, were like tiny billiard balls. Later, they were thought to be like little solar systems, with electrons flying around a nucleus.

Today, physicists consider atoms to be probability clouds because at the subatomic level particles appear and disappear and there is more space in an atom than anything else.

All this means that at the smallest level of materiality, there is only pure energy.

This energy coalesces into forms we find meaningful because of the work of consciousness. In other words, without the observer, reality is questionable.

You are that consciousness that is creating the dream. And you work in harmony with every other consciousness on the planet to make it happen on a global scale. We call the collective assembly of the dream, reality.

Over eons the dream of reality has attained depth and volume. It has become a creation. And this creation now includes us, and who we are is that which is exploring itself in the mirror of the space-time continuum.

Diogenes was right about the macroscopic world, too. It really is all about opinions.

This gives you a lot of leverage, because when you choose to believe in something, you create your reality. And to change your reality, all you have to do is change your beliefs about yourself and what you consider to be real.

In Quantum Physics it is even argued that the eyes with which you see shapes the world shapes that you see.

Perception is not passive, as most people who are unconsciously following the Newtonian paradigm believe, but active; in other words, it is an act of creation.

As consciousness, you get to choose your perception, and your perception shapes both you and your entire reality.

This means that you are not a spectator of life, but a creator, and the more you understand this idea the more fluid and dynamic do your creations become.

Most people live their lives in a state of passive acceptance of what is because they do not understand that their thoughts and feelings are actually cosmic waves that move things in and out of their experience.

Yet when you realize that what you think matters to everyone, whether you know about it or not, then you also have the power to start getting what you want and stop getting what you don't want.

Manifestation is not an occult science. It is a fact of human experience. Rather than an oddity, it is the basis of consciousness.

Those who know about the power of manifestation also come to know how each thought is a message into the collective unconscious to bring you what you want as you need it.

On the level of mind, we are in perfect, albeit unconscious, telepathy with all other minds. Consciousness is not a bundle of separate units but a collective ocean in which we all participate.

Furthermore, minds also influence matter directly, rearranging molecules, and the evidence for this is all the self-healing that is possible when you think loving thoughts to your own cells.

Who you are, then, is an artist in front of a canvas, a sculptor in front of a slab of marble, an author who is writing the story of your own life and influencing the lives of everyone else in the process.

You are the creator in the thick of your creations.

What you think and feel matters. It spins worlds into existence.

Why You Are The Light Of The World

You are awesome. You are the light of the world. And in this brief essay, I will prove it to you.

Your body is a superb machine whose functional details keep scientists in a state of awe and wonder. They estimate that your body has enough power to run a whole city for a week.

Your mind is a computer that has billions of interconnected neurons. You may have enough raw brain power to run a galaxy.

Yet there is something even more amazing about you. You are self-aware, the creator of yourself, and your own creation. You are more than a person, much more. You are a consciousness whose only limit is your own self-belief and imagination.

And, whether you admit it or not, you are here on this planet to do something great with all this raw power and potentiality. You are a creator and you are in a place where creation is necessary. In fact, your internal guidance system, your emotions, will tell you whether you are on track or off track. If you are happy, you are doing something creative and feel fulfilled. If you are unhappy, you are conforming to a reality that does not bring out the best in you.

On the surface of things, it may seem that you have little free-will and are limited in both creativity and imagination. It may also seem that you are pressed in and coerced to do things by stronger forces. And it may also seem that you are different from others, living in a separate objective world of your own.

Yet the study of quantum mechanics shows that at a fundamental level everything is only energy and that this idea of separation is really some kind of hallucination we all share in common because our senses are not subtle enough to observe the fluid interconnection between all things.

Furthermore, a radical subjectivity informs your entire experience of life. That is, you can never not be yourself, and even when you name something as objective, it is a statement that arises from your own subjectivity.

Finally, you are nothing but your own expression of choices, which you bring into existence through creativity and imagination.

This life that you live is the clay that you shape. You are the geometer, organizer, and designer of your life.

As Dr. Joe Vitale said in the movie, The Secret, "You are the Michelangelo of your own life. The David you are sculpting is YOU."

What you think and feel on a moment by moment basis influences all of life because everything about you has some kind of influence.

This is a big concept.

Here is how to understand it.

Think of a row of dominoes leaning up against other dominoes, when there is a change in movement in one, it affects all the other dominoes.

Here is another way to understand it.

Scientists estimate that the flapping of the wings of a butterfly can affect the air currents in a way that gradually magnifies over a distance until it causes weather changes

Of course, all this is very, very subtle. You will never know whether your bad mood affects an international crisis in a war-prone area or whether your good mood creates an act of kindness in a city far away from you.

It has been said that the vibrations of someone with deep wisdom can affect all of humanity. This is easier to understand. After all the history of ideas shows that all that is necessary to influence billions of people throughout time is the ideas of a few people.

What all this means is that beneath the apparent separation between human beings, we are all one; and beneath the apparent lack of power we display, we hide a mighty power.

What you say, think, and do matters. Not only to you, but to everyone. Sometimes it is obvious how your influence spreads. But most often it is subtle, very subtle, hardly noticeable to you, like the flapping of the wings of a butterfly.
